Eric Goo the
youngest of three brothers started his jiu-jitsu life by
getting introduced to the art by his brother Kendall who
was home for the summer from college. It was there on
Oahu where Kendall was introduced to the legendary Relson
Gracie by Kai Garcia. Upon returning home he began to
teach Eric the moves he had learn. Following the summer
of 94' Eric enrolled at the Relson Gracie Jiu-jitsu
academy.
Living with
his older brother at the time the two would both go to
practice and almost always partner up for class and in
drills and sparring. It was during this time that Eric
began to notice how the size difference between the two
*80-100lbs would often change the result of the leverage
when tried to be applied against the much larger older
brother. This resulted in Eric having to refine his
technique to the fullest in order to apply the
submissions, sweeps and points of control.
After giving
it a lot of thought Eric decided it was time Hawaii had
an event run by locals that was well organized,
competitor friendly and would benefit every one who came
to support and compete. Hawaii Kimono Combat, was his
vision, with unified rules, no politics, and a great
venue!
The
inaugural even kicks off on Saturday February 27th, please
come out and support or compete. Although people who
place first get trophies every one who puts it on the
line and test themselves are true winners.
